Antique beaded purse measures approximately 7.5 inches wide by 9 inches high with the fringe. The handle adds another 6 inches.
This purse features a different design on the front and back. The front also is embellished with stones along the frame border. A few of these stones are missing (see photo). The frame appears to be brass although I cannot confirm this. There is an intricate design on the frame. The closure works. The handle is embellished with round and oblong brass beads connecting cylindrical rods.
The lining is torn and not repairable in my opinion. There were 2 pockets on each side of the lining for a small mirror or compact.
The background beads are a dark wine color. The flowers are mainly purple and rose colored on the front and red and yellow on the back, with green leaves on both sides. The fringe appears to be black and the last fringe loop is frayed with some missing beads. Otherwise, the fringe looks pretty good.
This purse is not in perfect condition as you can see from the picture. However, it is a beautiful specimen that would make a lovely addition to your vintage collection. I don't know the history of the purse. I would not rule out that it was made in France, but again, this cannot be confirmed as the torn lining has no identifying labels.
